Her Journey to RISE

Dr. Neeta Bhushan Nawalkha is a former cosmetic dentist turned best-selling author, international speaker, social entrepreneur, the advocate of emotional health, and leadership coach. Her entire work on human behavior, emotional leadership, and building capacity rose from her own intense and very personal backstory.

Neeta was born and raised in the United States to a family of immigrant parents from India and the Philippines. At the age of 10, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. In line with Asian traditions, Neeta had to step up to become the woman of the house who cooked and cared for her father and two younger brothers, all while spending nights in a hospital watching her mother eventually lose her battle to cancer.

Just as her family was regaining strength from the trauma of losing her mother, Neeta’s best friend and brother had a massive asthma attack. He passed away on the day of her youngest brother’s birthday. The family was left paralyzed in deep shock. Her father fell into a deep depression.

A high school senior, Neeta chose to stay near to her family. She juggled three jobs while upholding the traditional Asian expectations and familial obligations of caring for the household, her father, and her younger brother.

Exactly two years later, her father was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and he died nine months later. This left Neeta orphaned at 19 and caretaker of her youngest brother.

The immense trauma, adversity, and responsibility left her absolutely devastated, heartbroken and distraught. Neeta moved forward the only way she knew how: by setting her sights on achieving every checkbox society and traditions told her she needs to be successful.

Neeta went on to excel academically, become a cosmetic dentist, and own a 7-figure dentistry practice. She had also married a successful person in a lavish wedding, then lived in a big house with luxury cars. She had achieved all of this by the age of 30.

However, inside she was crumbling.

In an effort to bury all her trauma and emotions under the foundation of success, Neeta was living a lie. The truth behind the facade was that Neeta was stuck in a mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive marriage. On top of that, her career was unfulfilling.

After realizing she had not fully healed from her past trauma, Neeta could see how she had created a reality for herself where patterns of trauma were repeating. She knew then that things had to change and she needed to finally put her healing — and herself — first.

On December 31st 2011, Neeta left her toxic marriage and the first class lifestyle. In the years that would follow, she would focus on leadership, and growth, that would later have her leave medicine, and sell her million-dollar practice.
